The landscape image takes on a distinct quality due to the material it was painted on, namely ceramic. The ceramic surface imparts a lighter and softer application reminiscent of water-colour paintings, contrasting with the deeper and denser texture of the oil paintings. The depicted scene is set at a greater distance, offering an expansive sense of space. 

Drawing inspiration from multiple visits to botanical gardens in California, Valdez captured scenes through photography and sketches, subsequently

incorporating them into surreal still-life compositions, as exemplified in Venus De Milo Torsos with Two Shells, 2023, and  Birds with Pond, 2023.
