Born and based in Shanghai, China, Su Chang (b. 1985) is best known for his uncanny, stark-white sculptures. Conversant with the language of sculpture, Su draws our attention to mundane objects that look familiar in form but seem otherwise removed from our daily experiences. Through simple but powerful forms, he captures snapshots of our everyday life, blurring the boundaries between our subjective perception and objective reality, building on art history’s rich tradition of questioning the reliability of epistemology.  The surfaces of his sculptures are smoothly finished but the edges are delicately frayed, a reminder of our fickle immanence. As a whole, his work evokes the existential dread and anxiety we are forced to confront and the indelible scars that they leave on our fragile psyche.

Su is a prolific artist that has participated actively in numerous local and international exhibitions for almost two decades. Notably, he has exhibited in the Sifang Art Museum Project Space Shanghai, Guangdong Museum of Art Guangzhou, YUZ Museum Shanghai, CAFA Art Museum Beijing, China, MoCA Shanghai, and Duolun Museum of Modern Art Shanghai. Recently, he exhibited a massive site-specific installation “Hole” at ShanghART M50.
